Make PNG files smaller and easier to share. Nothing is uploaded.
Convert to
Your files never leave this device.
Convert PNG images to JPG in your browser: drop the files, keep JPG selected and download. JPG makes photo-like images much smaller, but it cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background color you choose, white by default. Nothing is uploaded, and you can convert many PNG files at once.
How to use
Drop your PNG files onto the page.
Keep JPG selected as the output format.
Pick a background color if your PNG has transparent areas.
Set the quality, then download each JPG or a ZIP of all of them.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a transparent PNG to JPG without a white background?
Pick another color with the background color control before you convert. JPG cannot store transparency at all, so the transparent areas always get filled with some color; choose a color that matches the page where you will use the image.
Will the JPG be smaller than my PNG?
Usually yes for photos, often by a large margin. For screenshots, logos and flat graphics the saving is smaller, and a PNG that is already tiny can even grow, so check the file size shown next to each result.
Why does the text in my JPG look fuzzy or speckled?
JPG compression creates small artifacts around sharp edges such as text and thin lines. Raise the quality toward 100, or keep the file as PNG if it is mostly text, a logo or a diagram.
What JPG quality should I choose?
The default of 90 is a good starting point for most photos. The slider runs from 30 to 100; lower values give smaller files with more visible artifacts, so compare a couple of settings on your own image.
When should I not convert PNG to JPG?
Do not convert logos, icons, line art or images you still want to edit, because they need sharp edges or transparency. Converting is a one-way step: the pixels JPG discards cannot be recovered by converting back.
Does the JPG have the same pixel size as the PNG?
Yes. The converter changes only the format, so the width and height in pixels stay the same. If you also need smaller dimensions, resize the image as a separate step.
How can I get a PNG under an upload size limit?
Converting to JPG is often the quickest way, because photos shrink a lot. If the file is still too large, lower the quality or use the image compressor, which can aim for a specific file size.
Why does JPG make PNG files so much smaller?
PNG stores every pixel exactly. That is perfect for graphics, but a photo has millions of slightly different colors, and a lossless file of it gets big. JPG throws away detail the eye barely notices, which is why a photo often shrinks to a fraction of its PNG size.
The saving depends on the picture. A smooth photo shrinks the most. A screenshot with flat colors and small text compresses well in PNG already, so the JPG may be only a little smaller, or in some cases larger.
What happens to the transparent parts?
JPG has no alpha channel, so every transparent pixel needs a color. This tool fills them with the background you choose, white by default. If the image will sit on a dark page, pick a dark color now, because you cannot change it later without the original PNG.
If you need to keep the transparency, stay with PNG, or look at the JPG to WebP page for the format family that can handle both lossy compression and transparency.
Which PNG files are good candidates?
Photos saved as PNG, large screenshots of photographic content, scans and images you want to email are the best candidates. Logos, icons, diagrams and anything with transparency should stay PNG.
A practical routine: convert at quality 90, look at the result at full size, and lower the quality only if the file is still too big. For a fixed target, finish with the image compressor. If the picture is also too large in pixels, the image resizer fixes that part.
Can you go back from JPG to PNG?
You can convert the JPG back, but the discarded detail does not return. It is safest to keep the original PNG as your master copy and treat the JPG as a delivery copy. The JPG to PNG page explains what that reverse step does and does not do. For every other pair of formats, the main image converter covers them in one place.

JPG has no transparency; transparent areas are replaced with the background color you pick.
JPG is lossy, so sharp text and flat graphics can show artifacts.
The JPG contains no metadata from the PNG, such as embedded text fields.
Assistants cannot change an image file themselves. With the local MCP server, the convert_image tool can turn PNG files on your computer into JPG, for example “convert the screenshots in this folder to JPG at quality 85”.
