Convert images between formats

HEIC to JPG, PNG to WebP and more. Nothing is uploaded.

Convert to

Your files never leave this device.

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG, PNG to WebP, WebP to JPG, and other combinations of JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP and ICO. Drop as many files as you like and download them as a ZIP. The conversion happens in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded to a server.

How to use

  1. Drop your files (HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP or GIF).
  2. Choose the format you need.
  3. Adjust the quality if the format supports it.
  4. Download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file, and how do I open it on Windows?

HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default because it takes about half the space of JPEG. Windows needs extra extensions from the Microsoft Store to open it; converting to JPG here makes the photo open everywhere.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG for free?

Drop the HEIC photos here, choose JPG and download. There is no limit on the number of photos, and they are converted on your device instead of being uploaded.

Why are my iPhone photos HEIC?

Since iOS 11, the iPhone camera saves photos as HEIC when “High Efficiency” is selected in Settings › Camera › Formats. Choose “Most Compatible” there if you want new photos saved as JPG.

Is PNG or JPG better?

PNG is better for screenshots, logos and graphics with text or transparency because it is lossless. JPG is better for photos because it makes much smaller files with no visible difference at good quality.

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Drop the WebP files, choose JPG and download. Transparent areas are filled with white, since JPG cannot store transparency; choose PNG instead to keep it.

Does converting reduce quality?

Converting to PNG, BMP or ICO is lossless. Converting to JPG, WebP or AVIF re-compresses the image; at a quality of 85 or higher the difference is rarely visible.

Can I convert many HEIC files at once?

Yes. Drop a whole batch, and every file is converted in parallel on your device. Download them together as a single ZIP file.

Which format should I convert to?

Choose JPG for photos that must open on any device, and PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with text or transparency, because PNG is lossless. WebP is a good choice for websites; converting JPG to WebP usually gives a smaller file at a similar look. AVIF can be smaller still, but not every older app opens it.

If you have a transparent PNG logo and need a photo-style file, think twice. When you go the other way with JPG to PNG, the picture does not gain quality; it just stops being re-compressed on later saves.

My iPhone photos will not open. What should I do?

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, and many Windows programs and websites cannot read that. The page for HEIC to JPG converts a whole batch at once, and you can download the results as one ZIP. To avoid the problem for new photos, set Settings › Camera › Formats to Most Compatible.

Remember that HEIC is only an input format here, because browsers cannot write HEIC files.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPEG cannot store transparency. When you use PNG to JPG or WebP to JPG, the transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose, white by default. Pick a color that matches the page where the image will be used. If you need to keep the transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

How do I make a favicon?

Choose ICO as the output and choose the sizes you need, from 16 to 256 pixels. PNG to ICO is built for this. Start from a square image of at least 256 pixels with a simple shape, because small icons lose fine detail; you can prepare it with Resize Image.

Two habits help. Do not convert a lossy file back and forth between formats, since each step loses a little. And after converting, shrink the files with Compress Image if size matters. Converted files carry no camera or location data.

Limits and privacy

  • Browsers cannot write HEIC, so HEIC is only an input format.
  • Animated GIF and animated WebP are converted as a single still frame.
  • Converted files carry no metadata (camera, date, location).
  • Very large photos can fail on phones with little memory.

Use it in your AI assistant

With the local MCP server, an AI assistant can convert image files on your computer, for example “turn all the HEIC photos in Downloads into JPG”. The tool is called convert_image, and the files never leave your machine.
